Based on a real skull photographed in Portobelo, on Panama's Caribbean coast — a fortified port town the Spanish built to move gold and silver out of the New World, and the kind of place that pulled pirates the way a lit window pulls moths. Portobelo was sacked by Henry Morgan in 1668, then hit again by John Coxon and Bartholomew Sharp. The design carries the town's founding year, 1597, along with crossed pistols, a sword hilt, and the old line sailors swore by: "May your blade always be wet and your powder dry."
